5 Reasons Why We Should Thank Steve Jobs

Steve-Jobs-iPhone

When I found out a week ago that Steve Jobs will be stepping down as CEO of Apple, I thought, “What will happen to Apple?” I have been an avid mac user for ages. Frankly, I cannot even remember if I ever used a PC. I love Apple. I am really amazed on how they innovated on technology. They completely revolutionized the way we communicated and interacted in our work and life.

I compiled 5 things that I am thankful to Steve Jobs. If it weren’t for him, I would still be using a PC. o_O.

Here are the 5 things I am thankful for:

  1. Not doing it for the money. Long before Citigroup’s CEO Vikram Pandit was taking home $1 a year, Steve Jobs earned a measly $1 annual paycheck. When he rejoined the company in 1997 after being let go from Apple in 1985, Jobs set his salary at just $1. Though the tech pioneer is well-known for his wealth — thanks to his investments in Apple and Disney, among others — he has been quoted as saying “I never did it for the money.” In 2010, his total compensation was again $1, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
  2. Inspiring others. Not only do legions of entrepreneurs list Jobs as a source for inspiration, Apple’s ecosystem has helped fuel thousands of other businesses. At present, there are more than 500,000 applications listed on the App Store, and countless other technology firms have sprung up to furnish ancillary products. Because of this, designers, programmers and entrepreneurs, gained access to the millions of users of iTunes in the App store. In other words, he created employment to many aspiring innovators.
  3. Being a Visionary. He went against many stereotype business models on technology. He introduces concepts that were unheard off. He had a goal and focused on that goal with laser like precision. Because of this we got iTunes, App Store, iPad, the iPhone and the iPod. Heck, I can’t even go to the gym without my iPod.
  4. Revolutionary gadgets. I have always wondered what the next big thing is and perhaps be the first one to introduce it. Lol. But, Steve Jobs comes out with the iPhone and the iPad. What is next? These are the gadgets that any person would love to have, young or old.
  5. Forcing corporate giants to be innovative. All thanks to iTunes, now, we have access to awesome music which record companies monopolized before. Due to the demand for music, record companies had to comply with iTunes business model. Another one is the iPhone. AT&T only offered yearly plans but because of the demand with the iPhone product, you can now avail of monthly plans.
There are so many more things I wish to thank Steve Jobs for. He truly revolutionized the way we look at technology. On a personal note, he inspired me to go out and explore the world of possibilities where there are no mistakes but learning points. Thank you Steve Jobs. I wish one day I can really meet you in person to personally say THANK YOU!
